The world media is again overflowing with information and reports about the serious situation in Syria that has been developing over a period of time, and has climaxed now with red-line being crossed, and chemical weapon used against civilian population. President Obama himself said the chemical weapons will be the red line that the U.S. will not allow to be crossed, and is now driven to intervene in what is happening in Syria. The evidence is overwhelming against President Bashar Assad who apparently gave the order to use chemical weapons against civilian population.
According to many different reports in the media, as a result of this horrible attack, it is believed over 1400 people died, including many children. The photos of the event are horrifying, with bodies of whole families and small children lying side by side. The count of the casualties and the injured only continues to grow with Syria not being quick to allow U.N. inspectors to investigate the attacks and its wide scale damage. Another hindrance is Russia and China’s veto in the U.N. against any military action that is aimed at putting an end to the conflict.
Things appear to be very serious right now, since Syrian president Assad threatens in case of U.S. attack to “defend” himself by attacking with chemical weapons Israel, which he claims, is behind American “aggression”. His threat to set fire to the Middle East is very real, since he counts on the support of Iran, who also have a “light finger on the trigger” when it comes to Israel.
In Israel, we take these threats and disturbing development of events very seriously and Home Front is conducting a massive campaign informing and preparing people on how to behave in case of an attack, as well as to refresh our supply of gas masks that every Israeli home has on stand-by.
For the past week Israel has been under rocket fire again from Egypt. Rockets fell in the southern border city of Eilat, after which several rockets were also fired from Lebanon at Northern cities of Israel. There was some damage to properties, but no casualties.
“Comfort, comfort my people, says your God. Speak tenderly to Jerusalem…” Isaiah 40:1
Now is a crucial moment to pray for the peace of Jerusalem and for the future of this nation. During this escalation and times of uncertainty, we are also entering into the days of the Lord’s Festivals: Rosh Ha-Shana (Jewish New Year), Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement), Sukkot (Feast of Tabernacles)
This is a wonderful opportunity for you to show your love, support and care for the Israeli people. We will be organizing special festival and preparing gifts and food packets to bless people in need for the holidays and we are taking up a special offering to prepare food packets, that potentially might be used as war supplies.
You can bless Israel by sowing into this humanitarian project during these days when Israel is facing the possibility of war.
“For Macedonia and Achaia were pleased to make a contribution for the poor among the Lord’s people in Jerusalem. They were pleased to do it, and indeed they owe it to them. For if the Gentiles have shared in the Jews’ spiritual blessings, they owe it to the Jews to share with them their material blessings.” Romans 15:26-27
