Have you ever noticed that the strongest part of a building is usually the part you never think about?
Long before the walls go up or the roof is added, the foundation has to be laid. In Bible times, one stone was especially important. It was called the Even Pinah (אֶבֶן פִּנָּה, pronounced: EH-ven pee-NAH)—the cornerstone. Everything else was measured from that one stone. If it was placed correctly, the building would stand strong. If it was not, the whole building would eventually be out of line.
Throughout the Bible, God uses this picture to teach us something wonderful about Yeshua.
Hundreds of years before the Messiah came, David wrote:
“The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone.”
Psalm 118:22
That is exactly what happened.
Many people rejected Yeshua because He did not come the way they expected. They were looking for a king who would overthrow Rome. Instead, He came to deal with something far greater—the sin that separates us from God. They wanted political freedom, but God was offering eternal salvation.
The religious leaders rejected Him, but God’s plan never changed. Yeshua Himself quoted this verse and applied it to His own life. The cross was never a mistake. It was always part of God’s perfect plan.
This has an important lesson for each one of us today.
It is easy to build our lives on things that seem secure—our plans, our finances, our careers, or even other people. But all of those things can change.
Yeshua never changes.
When He is the Cornerstone of our lives, we have a foundation that remains secure no matter what happens around us. Storms may come, but our foundation will not move because it is built on Him.
Peter takes this picture even further:
“You also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house…”
1 Peter 2:5
Yeshua is the promised Even Pinah—the Cornerstone spoken about in the Hebrew Scriptures. Everyone who places their faith in Him becomes one of those “living stones.” As we build our lives on Him, God is also building us together into His spiritual house.
Maybe today you feel overlooked or unimportant.
Remember Even Pinah.
The world rejected the Cornerstone, but God made Him the foundation of His Kingdom. What God chooses, He establishes, and what He builds will stand forever.
This week, as you face the decisions and challenges of life, remember Even Pinah. Build your life on Yeshua, the Cornerstone that never fails. When everything around you seems uncertain, you can stand with confidence because your foundation is secure in Him.
Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for sending Yeshua to be my Even Pinah—the Cornerstone of my life. Thank You that I can stand on a foundation that will never be shaken.
Teach me to build my life on Him each day. When I face uncertainty, remind me that Yeshua, my Even Pinah, remains faithful. Help me to trust Him more, knowing that my life is secure in Him.
Thank You for making me one of the living stones You are building into Your spiritual house. Continue Your work in my life, and help me reflect Your love to those around me.
