Sometimes, God shows up in ways we least expect.
Peter, a new immigrant from Ukraine, came to one of our recent humanitarian aid projects at Beit Hallel. After having spent time with other new immigrants at the project, as well as receiving the humanitarian aid that he so desperately needed, he was walking home when he suddenly realized something—he had forgotten his keys at Beit Hallel’s distribution center.
By then, the building was nearly empty. Most people had already left, except for a handful of staff, including one of our staff members, Chaim. Chaim had every reason to head home too, but something in his spirit told him to stay a little longer. He didn’t know why, but he felt the Lord prompting him to wait.
When Peter returned for his keys, a simple exchange turned into a heartfelt conversation between the two men. Peter began to share his story. He had recently been in a serious motorcycle accident. The impact left him with a head injury and ongoing health struggles, including problems with his memory functions. As he spoke, it became clear that Peter wasn’t just carrying physical pain—he was also burdened emotionally and spiritually.
Chaim listened carefully, and with compassion, he gently asked, “Can I pray for you?” Peter agreed, and together they lifted up his needs to the Lord. As they prayed, something shifted. Chaim felt it too—this wasn’t a coincidence. It was a moment designed by God.
When they finished praying, Chaim looked at Peter and said, “You didn’t forget your keys by accident. The Lord wanted you here today. This is a divine appointment.” He went on to talk about how life is fragile and unpredictable, especially after what Peter had been through. “We don’t know what tomorrow holds,” Chaim said, “but we can know the One who holds tomorrow. Today is the day to make things right with Him.”
Peter didn’t hesitate. There was no resistance, no argument. His heart was already prepared. Right there, in the quiet of the now-empty center, Peter prayed a prayer of repentance, surrendering his life to Yeshua. It was a holy moment—just Peter, Chaim, and the Lord.
When Peter lifted his head, his face was different. The weight he had been carrying seemed to lift. Peace and joy replaced the heaviness. You could see it in his eyes. A new chapter had begun. His journey with Yeshua had started.
This testimony reminds us that God is always working, even in the smallest details. What seemed like a forgotten set of keys was, in fact, God’s way of reaching Peter’s heart.
Please join us in praying for Peter as he begins this new life. Pray that the Lord will strengthen him, guide him, and pour out His grace on every step of his journey. Let’s believe together that God, who began this good work in Peter, will carry it to completion.
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
