This year, “back to school” means something far deeper than just new books, backpacks and sharpened pencils for children in Israel. After months of war, evacuation, and uncertainty, returning to the classroom is part of a much bigger journey—a journey back to normalcy, healing, and hope.
Many of these children come from families who have paid a steep price. Their homes and communities were shaken by rocket fire. Some were forced to flee, leaving behind everything familiar. Others faced long stretches of fear and confusion, not knowing if life would ever go back to how it was.
But one of the hardest parts?
For many of these children, their fathers were called up to serve in the war—and many are still being called into reserve duty. These families have spent nights not just under sirens, but in prayer—waiting for text messages, updates, and safe returns. The weight these kids carry is invisible to most, but it’s very real.
And now, as the new school year approaches, what should be a joyful time is filled with anxiety. Instead of shopping for backpacks, many families are still trying to cover rent and put food on the table. For struggling households—especially those of new immigrants (Olim)—the added pressure of war has made the back-to-school season feel impossible.
But this is where we can step in—with love, generosity, and practical help.
Through our Annual Back to School Project, we’re reaching out to bless children all over Israel with everything they need to start the school year with dignity and hope. Each child receives a full set of school supplies:
