Assuming YOUR Calling as Watchmen on the Walls of Jerusalem

One of the great privileges of living in Israel is having biblical sites in close proximity.

As a team, we go up to Jerusalem quite frequently and perform our priestly duty of being watchmen on the walls of the city of God.

I have set watchmen on your walls, O Jerusalem; They shall never hold their peace day or night.

Isaiah 62:6

As we walk around and pray, as watchmen, we think back to the watchmen in the biblical times, whose duty was to stand guard and watch over the city for any possible intruders of dangers. They were the guards and protectors of the city. They also were watching to see if there were blessings and provisions approaching the city, so they would open the gates for it.

Yet the Bible also speaks about watchmen on the walls of Jerusalem as prayer warriors. It’s not even just about Israel, but also the nations. Watchmen were placed to watch over God’s own.

That is God’s call for Israel, as well as the nations: to become watchmen on His walls, to watch, be alert, keep vigil and be prepared for what is coming.

I have set watchmen on your walls, O Jerusalem… You who make mention of the LORD, do not keep silent!

Isaiah 62:6

He calls us to never keep silent as watchmen on His walls, but keep praying day and night for God to fulfill all His plans and purposes for His people.

As we walk alongside the ancient walls of Jerusalem, we do just that: praying, proclaiming, prophesying, reading His promises and prophecies in the old days and for the future. We are releasing God’s power through our prayers as watchmen on His walls.

That is the calling of every believer. Whether you live in Israel or on the other side of the world, that is His calling for you! Becoming a watchman on the walls of Jerusalem.
