Spreading the aroma of His knowledge
Romans had an interesting custom in their culture; they would go out into the nations, they would conquer them, possess their land, and would gather valuable possessions to bring back with them to Rome, which they carried as they walked through the Roman Triumphal Arch. It was a way to present the power, glory, and might of the Roman Empire and place it at their emperor’s feet.
As I was standing before that very Arch in Rome, it truly is magnificent. Then I remembered the scripture in 2 Corinthians:
But thanks be to God, who always leads us as captives in Christ’s triumphal procession and uses us to spread the aroma of the knowledge of him everywhere.
2 Corinthians 2:14
That is exactly what the Lord has done with us. Romans would take their captives and possessions from their victories, and present them in a triumphal procession.
The Lord has given us triumph in Christ! He has presented us in Christ’s triumphal procession, and is using us to spread the aroma, the sweet fragrance of the knowledge of Him!
In Hebrew triumph is referred to as “masah nitzakhon” — journey of victory. Meaning, victory comes at a price. There’s a journey to reach it.
We carry about us the fragrance of the Lord, when people can just perceive His presence on us as a perfume.
We are called to walk victoriously in Yeshua, to walk through spiritual gates celebrating His triumph, as we present to our King of kings everything that we conquer in His name and for His glory. The souls that get saved through our witness, the influence of God’s Kingdom through our lives spreading and touching others — the Lord uses it all for His glory.
