How do We Stand as Watchmen on the Walls of Jerusalem?

Overlooking the walls of Jerusalem, countless scriptures come to mind. One that resonates deeply is Habakkuk 2:1, which says:

I will stand at my watch and station myself on the ramparts; I will look to see what he will say to me, and what answer I am to give to this complaint.

Habakkuk 2:1

In Hebrew, it means being positioned like a watchman on a tower. When you observe the ancient walls of Jerusalem, you can still see the many watchtowers and positions for watchmen.

The phrase “…I will look to see what he will say to me…” in Hebrew is “lir’ot ma yidaber bi” (…see what He will say inside of me). It’s a reminder that God speaks to us through our spirit, giving us answers in our hearts.

God is preparing our hearts to place us as watchmen on His towers. He is equipping us to hear His voice within, revealing His answers to our prayers and questions. When He speaks to our spirit, He deposits His vision inside us.

Sometimes, God’s vision and dreams for us take time to come to pass. Israel is a prime example, with God speaking to His prophets thousands of years before fulfillment. These prophets faithfully wrote down the visions, passing them from generation to generation, until our generation has the privilege to live in their fulfillment.

Let’s carry the visions God has given us, without growing weary or disappointed, standing as His watchmen on our Jerusalem’s walls, patiently waiting in faith.

Prayer: Lord, I pray that You will speak to me and give me vision. I pray that You will provide answers and fulfillment to that vision. Speak to me in my innermost being, inside my heart, so that I will know Your will for my life, and live it to Your glory. Amen.
