There is no city on earth like Jerusalem. It carries something you don’t fully explain—you experience it. A sense of history, of purpose, of something deeper than what you see with your eyes. As you walk its streets, you become aware that this is not just another place. It is a city that has been part of God’s story for generations, a place where His Word has unfolded in real moments, in real lives, across time.
Jerusalem is not only a location on a map.
Scripture shows us that God chose this place for His Name. From the days of Abraham until today, it has remained central to His purposes. Kingdoms have risen and fallen, empires have come and gone, yet Jerusalem remains. Not by chance, but because of the promises of God that still stand—unchanged, steady, and alive even in a shifting world.
The psalmist says,
“Exalt the Lord, O Jerusalem; praise your God, O Zion!”
Psalm 147:12
This is more than a call to worship—it reminds us that Jerusalem belongs to Him. Zion is the place He has chosen, and His care over this city is constant and personal. When we speak about Jerusalem, we are not only speaking about history or prophecy, but about God’s faithfulness being worked out over time—seen across generations, and still continuing today.
At the same time, we also see the tension surrounding this city. Zion, which reflects God’s promises, often becomes a place of misunderstanding and conflict. It draws attention, questions, and at times opposition. But this does not change what God has spoken. As it is written,
“For out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem”
Isaiah 2:3
What God has established remains, even when the world around it feels unsettled. His Word does not lose its place, and His purposes do not fade.
And this speaks to us personally. The same God who watches over Jerusalem is the One who watches over our lives. His faithfulness is not limited to a place—it extends to our homes, our families, and our daily walk with Him. As Psalm 147 says,
“He strengthens the bars of your gates and blesses your children within you.”
Psalm 147:14
This is the kind of care He gives—not distant or occasional, but present, steady, and ongoing.
This is part of what Shabbat invites us into. To pause, to remember, and to return our focus to Him. In the middle of busy lives and uncertain moments, we are given space to realign our hearts with the One who remains faithful. Just as Jerusalem stands as a reminder of His promises, our lives can also reflect that same faithfulness—not through striving, but through trust, and not through pressure, but through resting in Him.
From Jerusalem, I want to bless you today: May the Lord strengthen your home and establish peace within your walls. May He guard your family, lift what weighs on your heart, and give you rest in His presence. And wherever you are, may you remain connected to Him and to what He is doing in this land, as His promises continue to unfold.
