What does it mean to pursue justice according to God’s standards?
In this week’s Torah portion, Parashat Shoftim (Deuteronomy 16:18–21:9), Moses prepares Israel for life in the Promised Land by giving instructions for judges, kings, priests, and prophets. Each was entrusted with responsibility, but each was also called to remain under the authority and wisdom of God.
At the heart of this portion is a powerful command: “Justice, justice you shall pursue.”
God desires leadership without corruption, justice without partiality, and people who walk humbly before Him. Moses also speaks of a future Prophet like himself—one whom Israel is commanded to hear and obey. As followers of Yeshua, we recognize the fulfillment of this promise in Him.
