Life brings moments when we feel unsettled or confused. We face situations we don’t fully understand, and our hearts grow restless as we try to make sense of what is happening. Only later do we realize that God was quietly working through it all.
This same experience appears in the Gospel of John. Right before the Last Supper, Yeshua speaks to Peter in a way that still speaks to us today:
“Yeshua answered him, ‘You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand.’”
John 13:7
Peter couldn’t see the purpose in what Yeshua was doing. The moment didn’t make sense to him, and he resisted it — much like we do when life takes us in unexpected directions. But Yeshua’s response was calm and reassuring. In essence He said, “You don’t see it now, but you will. Trust Me.”
Many times, the very things that trouble us today are part of what God is preparing for tomorrow. Instead of asking, “Why is this happening?” Yeshua invites us to ask deeper questions:
“What are You doing in my life, Lord?
What are You shaping in me?
What are You preparing for me?”
Shabbat helps us ask these questions with a quieter heart. It pulls us out of striving and into rest so we can remember that God is working even when we cannot see it. Shabbat becomes a weekly reminder of His promise: “Later you will understand.”
Sometimes understanding comes quickly. Sometimes it takes many years. But in time, we look back and recognize that the Lord was guiding, shaping, and protecting us through every step.
As we enter this Shabbat, let this be our simple prayer:
“Yeshua, I trust You — not because I understand, but because You are good.
Teach me to ask, ‘What are You doing?’
Strengthen me to rest, to wait, and to trust Your timing.
And when the time is right, help me see the work You have been doing all along.”
May this Shabbat bring you peace in uncertainty, confidence in His timing, and renewed trust in the One who leads you faithfully.
