The story of Purim is one of the most amazing examples of God’s divine intervention.
Imagine the fear, the uncertainty, the desperation of an entire people facing total annihilation. The Jewish people, scattered across the vast Persian Empire, were far from home, living under the rule of a foreign king. They clung to their faith, but danger loomed over them like a dark cloud.
What they couldn’t see was that God was already at work behind the scenes, preparing the way for one of the greatest turnarounds in history.
Most of us know the story of Esther, but when we truly step into it, we see the raw courage, the heart-wrenching decisions, and the miraculous power of God at work. Mordecai, a faithful Jew, refused to bow to anyone but God, knowing full well that this could cost him everything. His cousin, Esther, an ordinary young woman, was suddenly thrust into an extraordinary position—Queen of Persia. Yet no one knew she was Jewish.
She was safe in the palace, but her people were not.
Then came Haman. Power-hungry, arrogant, and filled with hatred, he set out to destroy every last Jewish man, woman, and child. He cast lots (Purim in Hebrew) to determine the date of their destruction, believing fate was on his side. A death sentence had been signed. The Jewish people were doomed.
But Haman underestimated one thing—God. Fate wasn’t in control—God was. What was meant to be a day of destruction became a day of salvation. Esther, trembling but unwavering, made a choice that would define history. She risked her own life, stepping before the king, uninvited—a move that could have cost her everything. But she had something greater than fear: faith. She fasted. She prayed. She stood in the gap for her people. And God moved.
One of the most fascinating things about the book of Esther is that God’s name isn’t mentioned even once. And yet, His fingerprints are on every page. That’s why, on Purim, people dress in costumes—to remind us that just like in Esther’s story, God may sometimes seem hidden, but He is always at work.
Purim isn’t just about remembering the past—it’s about celebrating the way God continues to turn things around. Throughout history, from ancient Persia to modern times, enemies have risen up against the Jewish people. And every time, God has stepped in. The very existence of the Jewish people is proof of His faithfulness, His protection, His unwavering love.
But this story isn’t just about them—it’s about us too.
The same God who saved His people back then is still moving today. Through Yeshua, He has opened the way for all nations to come to Him. He sees you. He values you. And just as He stood with Esther and her people, He stands with you now.
One of the most powerful lessons from Esther’s story is the importance of fasting and prayer. When faced with an impossible situation, Esther and the Jewish people cried out to God with all their hearts—and He answered. That’s a message for us today. No matter how dark things seem, no matter how impossible the battle appears, we are never alone. When we call on Him, He listens. He is faithful to His promises, both to the Jewish people and to all who put their trust in Him.
So as we celebrate Purim, let’s hold onto this truth: God is in control. He is faithful. And no matter what the enemy plans, nothing can stand against Him. Purim is a celebration of victory—of God’s love, His power, and His unshakable faithfulness.
Let’s rejoice, because the same God who turned sorrow into joy, despair into hope, and defeat into victory in Esther’s time is the same God who is working in our lives today!
