Everywhere I travel in Israel, I am reminded that this land is more than just ancient history—it is a living testimony to God’s power, faithfulness, and promises. The very stones and landscapes tell a story that goes beyond archaeology; they speak of divine intervention, of battles won not by human strength alone but by the mighty hand of God. The stories we read in Scripture are not distant myths or allegories—they happened in real places, among real people, and their echoes still resonate in our lives today.
Recently, I stood by the river of Lachish, a place steeped in biblical history. In the background, a green hill rose before me, but this was no ordinary hill—it was the ruins of the great biblical city of Lachish. Once a formidable and fortified city, it stood as a stronghold in the land of Canaan. This was a place where one of Israel’s most decisive battles took place, a site where faith met reality, and where God once again proved that He is the One who delivers victory to His people.
Then Joshua and all of Israel passed from Libnah to Lachish, camped near it, and attacked it. The Lord gave Lachish into the control of Israel, and Joshua captured it the next day.
Joshua 10: 31-32
As I stood there, I imagined Joshua and his army standing where I was, looking up at the towering walls of this mighty city. To the natural eye, it must have seemed impossible to conquer. How could they, a people who had wandered the wilderness for decades, overcome such a strong and well-defended city? And yet, they carried something greater than weapons or military strategy—they carried the promises of God. What should have taken weeks or months to overcome was conquered in just one day because the Lord Himself fought for them.
This moment of reflection led me to think about the battles we all face in our own lives. Some struggles seem insurmountable, like fortified cities standing in our way. Maybe it’s a personal trial, a financial hardship, a deep heartache, or an obstacle that appears too great to overcome. Perhaps you have felt like you are standing before an unscalable wall, wondering if breakthrough will ever come.
But here is the truth we must hold on to: The God of Joshua is the same God we serve today. He is still the God of victory. The same God who brought down the walls of Jericho, who gave Israel the strength to conquer Lachish, and who parted the Red Sea is the same God who walks with us through our battles today.
The battles we face may seem overwhelming, but when we walk in faith, trusting in His promises, He fights for us. He goes before us, making a way where there seems to be none. He strengthens us when we feel weak. He uplifts us when we are weary. And in His perfect time, He brings the victory—not by our might, but by His power and grace.
So, keep following Him. Keep trusting. Even when the fight is hard, even when the walls seem too high—hold on to His promises. Because just as He was with Joshua, He is with you. No battle is too great for our God, no obstacle too strong. The victory belongs to the Lord, and when we walk with Him, we walk in His triumph.
