Shabbat Shalom, friends!
Today, I want to reflect on a powerful passage from the Book of Ezra that speaks to the faithfulness of God and the importance of seeking Him wholeheartedly. In Ezra 7:9, we read about Ezra’s journey from Babylon to Jerusalem, a journey fraught with danger and uncertainty. Yet, Ezra’s success in completing this arduous journey wasn’t due to his own strength or preparation, but to the good hand of God upon him. The verse says, “For the good hand of his God was upon him.”
Ezra’s journey serves as a powerful reminder for us today that no matter how perilous our circumstances may seem, when God’s hand is upon us, we can be assured of His protection and provision.

But what made Ezra’s journey so successful? What gave him the strength to overcome the challenges he faced? We find the answer in the very next verse:
For Ezra had prepared his heart to seek the law of the Lord, and to do it, and to teach statutes and ordinances in Israel.

When we delve deeper into this verse, especially looking at the Hebrew words used, we discover some profound insights that can help us in our own walk with God. The word for “prepared” in Hebrew is “Lehachin”, which means not just to prepare, but to direct or guide one’s heart.
Ezra didn’t just passively prepare; he actively set his heart on a path to seek and follow the Lord.
He directed his heart towards God’s will, making a conscious decision to pursue Him with all his being. This is a powerful lesson for us—if we want to experience God’s hand upon our lives, we must first direct our hearts toward Him.
The next keyword is “seek.” In Hebrew, the word used is “Lidrosh,” which goes beyond the simple act of seeking. It implies an intensity, even a demand.
Ezra didn’t casually seek God’s law; he pursued it with passion and determination.
He didn’t say, “I’ll seek the Lord when I have time” or “I’ll pray if I feel like it.” No, he demanded to find God’s will in his life. He made seeking the Lord a priority, understanding that it was through this active pursuit that God’s guidance would be revealed.
This is a powerful reminder for us today. How often do we casually seek God, perhaps when it’s convenient or when we need something? But Ezra’s example calls us to pursue the Lord with everything we have, to seek Him passionately and actively, and to make His Word the foundation of our lives. When we do this, we can be sure that God’s hand will be upon us, just as it was upon Ezra.
Ezra’s mission was clear: to study the Word of God, to live by it, and to teach it to others.
This is the calling that each of us shares as followers of Yeshua. We are called not only to know God’s Word but to live it out and share it with those around us. When we commit to this, we are not only building our own faith but also contributing to the strengthening of the body of Yeshua and the people of Israel.
As we reflect on Ezra’s journey, I encourage you to prepare and direct your heart towards God’s will, to seek Him passionately and actively, and to make His Word the center of your life. When you do this, you will experience the same promise Ezra received—the good hand of God upon you. The challenges and trials will come, but with God’s hand over your life, you will be protected, provided for, and empowered to fulfill His calling.
Let us seek the Lord with all our hearts, with intensity and purpose, and trust that His hand will be upon us, guiding and leading us into victory. May this be your prayer today, and may God’s blessings and His shalom be with you always.
