There are few places on earth that stir my heart like Jerusalem.
Every time I walk through its ancient streets, I am reminded that this is far more than a historic city or a destination for pilgrims. Jerusalem is the city God chose to place His name upon. For more than three thousand years, He has watched over it, spoken concerning it, and declared His purposes for it. Today, the name Zion is increasingly misunderstood and, in many places, viewed with suspicion or hostility. Yet while opinions may change, God’s Word does not.
When we look at the Scriptures, we discover that Zion is precious to the Lord.
More importantly, we see that God’s redemptive plan reaches its fulfillment through Yeshua, the promised Messiah. He entered Jerusalem, gave His life there for our salvation, rose again, and one day He will return to reign from this very city. That is why we must always see Zion through the lens of God’s Word rather than the opinions of our generation.
In Psalm 147, God gives Jerusalem a beautiful invitation:
“Praise the Lord, O Jerusalem! Praise your God, O Zion!”
Psalm 147:12
This is more than a poetic verse. It is God’s loving call to His city and His people. He calls Jerusalem to lift up His name in worship because He is faithful to every promise He has made.
The wonderful truth is that the Psalm does not end with a call to praise. God immediately follows it with a promise:
“He strengthens the bars of your gates and blesses your children within you.”
Psalm 147:13
What a beautiful picture of God’s heart. He calls His people to worship, and He responds with protection, blessing, and care. He strengthens the city. He watches over its people. He blesses the next generation. The God who calls His people to praise is also the God who faithfully keeps them.
As I stand here in Jerusalem, I cannot help but sense the Lord’s deep love for this city.
I also believe He longs for every person in Israel—religious and secular alike—to come to know Yeshua as the promised Messiah. The same God who has preserved Jerusalem throughout history is still drawing people to Himself today.
This truth reaches far beyond Jerusalem. The God who blesses His people there is the same God who cares for you and your family. He delights in strengthening what is weak, protecting what is precious, and filling our hearts with His joy as we walk with Him.
From Jerusalem, I pray that the Lord’s blessing rests upon you today. May He watch over you, strengthen your home, bless your children, and fill your heart with the peace and joy that are found in Yeshua alone.
