This week’s Torah reading is called Parashat Beshalach (Book of Exodus 13:17–17:16), and it carries a powerful theme: From Deliverance to Discipleship.
Israel has just been set free—but freedom immediately leads them into places of testing. At the Sea of Reeds, panic turns into salvation. In the wilderness, hunger is met with manna from heaven. Thirst is answered by water from the rock. Battles are won not by strength alone, but by prayer and dependence on God.
Beshalach reminds us that salvation (yeshua) is only the beginning. God doesn’t just rescue His people; He teaches them how to trust Him day by day. Worship flows from deliverance. Daily provision teaches reliance. And the Rock that follows them points us forward to Messiah—the source of living water and life.
