Tu BiShvat – Celebrating the planting of trees in Israel
According to the Jewish calendar, every fifteenth of the month of Shevat is commemorated as “New Year of Trees” — the day when Israel celebrates by planting trees.
In modern-day Israel, all the trees in the land were planted by the Jews that returned to their ancient homeland at one point in history.
When I think about planting trees, so many prophecies come to mind. One of them is in Ezekiel 36:8-10 — “But you, mountains of Israel, will produce branches and fruit for my people Israel, for they will soon come home. I am concerned for you and will look on you with favor; you will be plowed and sown, and I will cause many people to live on you—yes, all of Israel.”
The Lord promised He would accomplish it, and He has! By using people He fulfills His promises and purposes.
The nation of Israel has been rebuilding, people have been planting trees, plowing, and sowing since the very beginning, just as it is written. Israel is taking an active part in the fulfillment of God’s prophecies.
It has been especially touching to see many Christian friends from the nations donating, or buying a tree and planting it in Israel on their behalf.
Tu BiShvat is a prophetic day in a way because it is when Israel and the nations come together to fulfill biblical prophecies in rebuilding and replanting this land from north to south, east to west.
I pray the Lord will make you a strong planted tree with deep roots in Him.
Blessings from Israel
